Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.....

Telltales Volume III - Cautionary Tales
Babahogs, Falmouth - 27th January - 7pm.

It was a dark and stormy night.....

OK, I made the stormy bit up, but it was rather wet and windy outside.

A crowd gathered in Babahogs, breathless with anticipation for the storytelling to begin. Fairy lights and candles cast shadows on the walls and lent touch of magic to the evening.

The weather raged outside; inside a hush fell upon the room as the tales unfolded. Words took flight, soaring around the room, coming to rest in our hearts and minds.

Six wordsmiths took their turn sitting in the Storyteller's Chair while they wove their enchantments. We heard poetry about love, life & travel, stories of cities sinking beneath the sea, the power of wishes, dreams - and trampolines.

During the interval, people drank coffee, nibbled on delectable chocolate brownies and mingled, discussing the stories and poems they'd heard. There were a fair few writers there, as well as a number of people who just enjoyed the opportunity to listen to tales told out loud.

There's something about listening to stories or poetry read or performed aloud; it's comforting to drift away as the storyteller's voice ebbs and flows, taking you to places you thought you'd forgotten, or had only visited in dreams. For many people, listening to the spoken word is an experience they left behind them with primary school.

We all agreed it was an experience to be treasured.

Telltales is a new night for writers, readers and listeners in Falmouth.
Volume IV takes place on 24 February at Babahogs from 7pm. The theme for the next installment is 'new order' (80s band references not obligatory). To find out more, or if you're interested in reading at the next session visit the Telltales website.
